A View From Bed 15
As Zachary lies in his crib this evening entering his world of dreams, I find comfort in the stillness of a quiet house. It seems that the rumor for parents is true: free time really is a rare commodity. I can't believe that it has been over two years since Zachary was born and all of the trials that Deanna and I have gone through. It was a journey of so many emotions that frankly I didn't know if I could ever have handled it. Thankfully many of you have stepped in to offer an ear to listen to and a shoulder to lean on.
About six months ago, I decided to take a handful of my favorite blogs and put them into some sort of three hole punch binder. It was a crude way of remembering some of the stories that populated Zachary's web site(s). Perhaps it would make for some good reading someday when the whole transplant thing seemed to be a distant memory. This idea then grew into putting ALL of the blogs into a much larger binder. Shortly after the blogs were tucked away, a friend suggested that I somehow turn these collections of blogs into a book.
A book? Really? I have never written anything even remotely close to a book. The largest amount of writing that I have done at one time was a 1000 word essay on why I shouldn't cut chemistry class. Of course, this was ordered by my high school principal and probably doesn't count as serious literary writing.
The suggestion was to create several chapters about Deanna and my life during Zachary's journey and supplement it with a hand picked selection of favorite blogs. At that time Zachary was under the effect of lots of sedation drugs which gave me a lot of free time to write. However, as he got discharged this free time soon disappeared and any time devoted to writing evaporated as well. So I decided to go without sleep, food and occasional breaths of air in order to free up time to finish this book. After much writing, formatting and editing I am happy to announce that this book, titled "A View From Bed 15" is finally available.
To enhance the makeup of the book, a web site was created to provide insight of what is covered. Located at www.bed15.com, excerpts of a few chapters are provided in their entirety. The book contains many of the favorite blogs as well as topics such as Deanna's pregnancy, our insurance woes, our relocation to Pittsburgh and of course, the stress of waiting it out for transplant are discussed in great detail.

Deanna and I are extremely grateful for the amount of support from everyone who has followed Zachary's daily challenges via this web site. We thank all of you who have made financial donations, those of you who have visited Zachary at his hospital and those who had the chance to care for our son during his good and not-so-good times. We welcomed the privilege of sharing Zachary's life with all of you and have enjoyed reading your words of encouragement.
We now find ourselves entering a new stage in our family's life. It is time to put the memories of Pittsburgh behind us and focus on the future at hand. Thus, this blog marks the final entry on this web site. It is now time for me to sign off and enjoy the evening.
The chorus of silence inside my house is a beautiful thing.
